Writing Journey

  • I made some progress with my short story idea. I read some similar stories, but I still feel at a loss for words when I sit down to write based on what I read. Maybe it's not the right story for me, or maybe I'm taking it too seriously. Nevertheless, I'll continue working on the story hoping to have a final draft of it one day.
  • Consuming media fills me with story ideas left and right, but I'm afraid to pursue them. I've lost my confidence in producing actual stories from a mere thought. I'm even afraid to note them down, more story ideas mean more documented failures in making them a reality.
  • Couch to 80k Creative Writing Bootcamp is finally finished. I wasn't happy with my performance in the final exercises. I needed an accomplishment anyway, so I committed to finish it. One of the earlier exercises was to schedule an "Ideal writing day" for six months later. I spent a Saturday to it last month, pretending to be a professional writer. I even took a walk mid-day to feel more intellectual. It was a nice day.
  • I started a new course: How to Write a Novel: Structure & Outline. This time it's an instructor-led online course. In the next newsletter, I'll share more about the experience.

Notes and posts

Books

  • The Fantasy tournament reading update is up. I read some great pieces of speculative fiction in the latest round, Green Bone, First Law, Realm of the Elderlings, and Malazan, among a few more.

That's it for my updates. If you want to support this newsletter, please make sure to subscribe. Comment on your thoughts and ideas on what I shared; I'd love to read them!
